NAMI: THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS

At NOSOLO, we continue to be reminded why we do this and how the importance of our work goes far beyond a hat, sweatshirt or small donation. Feels like every day we see a new name across the news or hear about someone in our circle that took their own life, and it further accelerates our mission to provide an outlet for those struggling with mental illness. A vision deeply shared by NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, envisioning a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares.

THAT’S WHERE WE CAN HELP.

We say it all the time, but there is power in this logo. There is power in support. NOSOLO was established with a purpose to not only provide quality products, but integrate ourselves with a cause that impacts those around us.

NAMI has become that cause. They are the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. We have seen first-hand over the years how they advocate for access to services, treatment or support, and push hard to raise awareness and understanding of mental illness. Something that people may think they know or understand, but is far more complex than most of us can fathom. We have spoken with them, walked with them, and worked alongside them to give back.

WANT TO LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THEM?

Ultimately, NAMI offers a wide array of resources for those affected by mental illness, including but not limited to:

Advocacy. At the local, state, and federal level for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.

Awareness. Striving to break the label surrounding mental illness through education and public awareness campaigns.

Support. Providing free support groups and educational courses for families and individuals living with mental illness - with specific programs for veterans, children and teens, college students, and people in the justice system. These are all just a few of the reasons why we chose NAMI as a partner and are proud to donate a portion of proceeds from every item we sell and events we host to help fight mental illness.

HOW ELSE YOU CAN HELP TAKE ACTION?

1) Educate yourself. The more you know about mental illness, the more equipped you’ll be to have open, honest conversations about it with others.

2) Talk/Open up. Once you’ve educated yourself, start talking to your friends, family members, co-workers, etc. The more we talk about mental illness openly and without shame or judgment, the more we can normalize these conversations.

3) Be an ally. If someone you know is living with a mental illness, be there for them—listen, offer support (but don’t try to fix), and encourage them to seek professional help if necessary. If you want to get involved, there are many opportunities through NAMI as a volunteer or advocate.

Let’s work together to take action, once and for all.
